Cosmos • Tuesday, August 15, 2006 • 11:49 PM

I posted a few more garden photos. They are mostly pictures of my cosmos that I started from seeds. I worked overtime again; the sun was too low in the sky to get too many photos.

Today I framed my a cat sketch that I did in chalk. I like how it turned out. I layered it over art paper.

Sugar Shoes, 3rd Installment • Sunday, August 13, 2006 • 6:51 PM

Ahhh, I'm so thankful to have the camera back. I took some pictures of my latest shoe arrival. They are the last in the Sugar series of purchases. They arrived late last week. I love them! The three pairs that I purchased are vegetarian, making them even better. I'm now going to stop looking at shoes for at least a few months. Really!

Thanks! • 6:30 PM

Keith's mom sent me this beautiful sushi block. She ordered it from a Japanese import company; I feel very special! It really is beautiful. Now I'm going to have to make some sushi. Yum! (Thank you! As you can see, I really like it!)

Octopi • 12:43 AM

I began painting and drawing a lot more this week, which was a good stress reliever. I had been planning to do a series on octopi... I need some things to hang on my studio wall, so most of these will probably go up there.

Here's what I've gotten started with:

These two are chalk drawings. I haven't found an appropriate frame for either of these yet, they are an odd size, as I used handmade paper. The texture of the handmade paper is great for chalk. The orange octopus was inspired by octopi I've seen at aquariums, their tentacles sprawled out across the thick glass. I always wonder if they wish they were free, and they glass seems like the most likely means of escape to them. I suppose you could say this is an ode to octopi dreams of freedom.

I found a heavy wooden frame for $4 (!) and made these square watercolors to fit it. I'm planning to hang it next to my shelf on my orange wall in my studio. I also got this bright green clock this week.

Super Grams! • 12:01 AM

The last two weeks have been particularly stressful at work. A co-worker resigned and so I have had to take on a lot of extra work. After next week, things should start improving. There have also been quite a few people out of the office as well, making us even shorter staffed. I made a lemon pie an brought it to work to cheer everyone up a little. My grandma heard about my stress and sent me flowers on Friday! I was so surprised, they are very pretty. The card was addressed "to superwoman, from super grams." Haha.

Mister thinks they smell very interesting.

Hot Chicks (Poolside) • Sunday, August 06, 2006 • 10:17 PM

Last night, while attacking his favorite rug, Mr. Mister discovered a hairpin. It apparently had fallen on the floor and had made its way under his rug. He went nuts and immediately began pouncing on it, batting it, and when it slid across the floor he followed in hot pursuit. I don't think that I've ever seen him move that fast. Today he was back to sprawling out upside down on the patio.

Today was very, very hot. I noticed the chickens were standing in my low birdbath, trying to cool off their feet. But the birdbath is so small that only one of them can stand in it at at time. So I bought them a small plastic kiddie pool. They haven't really caught on yet, but when I lifted Sparky into the pool she did seem to enjoy it.

My parents visited me today. My dad helped me repair some things, for example he fixed the lock on my screen door and helped me fix our front gate. We spent a fair amount of time at the hardware store. I had a lot of fun with my mom, too. She brought me some great thrifting finds. My dad had been quite worried about me after the "carpet cleaning guy" incident. I think he may have been more disturbed than I was even. I'm glad they both got to come see me and know that I am ok.

Yay, Keith is coming home tomorrow! We plan to have go out for a celebratory sushi dinner.

Refill, please. • Thursday, August 03, 2006 • 10:49 PM

Now there are two hummingbirds visiting my feeder. The hummingbird feeder is hung right in front of the kitchen table; I like to sit and there watch them when I come home to take my lunch break. They have visited so often that I had to refill the feeder today. More hummingbird moths have appeared and I have noticed an increase in butterfly visits, as they have begun to really discover my flowers. And I have no camera! Noooo! Haha, I probably couldn't get a shot of them anyway.

My second pair of Sugar shoes arrived last week. It's like a sub addiction to Sugar shoes, bracketed by my larger addiction to shoes in general. Here they are:

In other random news, the day before yesterday I had a scary encounter with a "carpet cleaning" man. A guy in a white jeep pulled up in my driveway, which initially made me nervous. He came to the door, and claimed to want sell me carpet cleaning. I have hardwood floors, so at least it was easy to get rid of him. He was quite creepy. It was around 7 or so, not prime carpet cleaning time. Not to mention he was driving a Jeep, which doesn't seem like the ultimate in cleaning equipment vehicles?? I also noticed that they only stopped at my house, passing up every single other house on my block. I told my neighbor about it and he's keeping a close eye on our house for us. Yikes! I've been double and triple checking the locks.
