Happy Valentine's Day! • Tuesday, February 14, 2006 • 11:00 PM

Today is a special day for Keith and I. It is the third year anniversary of our first date! We went to a local historic theater to see "Some Like it Hot" (starring Marilyn Monroe), where they were handing out free wine. We also went to an Indian restaurant, where I had okra, and my boyfriend had curry. Hence, our twin blogs!

Special Valentine Unit • Monday, February 13, 2006 • 10:40 PM

In honor of Valentine's week, I thought I would make mention of these Law and Order Valentines. Remember, in the criminal justice system, you are considered especially gorgeous! Courtesy of Boing Boing.

Valentine Flower • Sunday, February 12, 2006 • 1:27 PM

I have another amaryllis blooming! Unfortunately, the bloom stalk got snapped from the bulb. I was so sad, thinking that the severed bud would not open. But, just in case, I put it in a vase of water. I'm glad I did, because three blooms are emerging!

Sweet Dreams • Saturday, February 11, 2006 • 7:14 PM

Sometimes I talk in my sleep. I don't remember this conversation, but apparently it went like this:

Me (asleep): "I'm so jealous of you."
Curry: "Why are you jealous of me?"
Me: "Because you have a donut making machine."

Just Old • Friday, February 10, 2006 • 12:06 PM

At the college, we have tiered registration where seniors are allowed to register first, juniors next, and so on. One of my buddies at work forwarded this message to me that she received regarding this system:

"I am 58 yrs. old. Am I regarded as a 'senior'?"

Onitsuka Tiger! • Thursday, February 09, 2006 • 11:33 PM

I'm very excited because I ordered some shoes online that arrived yesterday. I've always been a little obsessed with Asics. Especially the Onitsuka Tiger line. The classic Onitsuka Tigers include those like the yellow and black pair (though she wore several other pairs as well) Uma wore in Kill Bill Vol. 1 (of course homage to Bruce Lee's Game of Death outfit):

Those are cool. Also, very expensive and hard to find. While I didn't get that model (though that would be awesome!) I did find some other retro re-commission styles from the Onitsuka line that were quite reasonable. One of the pairs I got is vegetarian; there are quite a few styles of the Onitsuka line that do not use leather. Sigh, oh, Onitsuka Tigers.

I got these two pairs. They are very comfortable, as I would expect from Asics. I used to always by Asics running shoes back in the day when I ran long distance. They run about a half size small, which is great for my narrow feet.

My $4 Are Gone • Wednesday, February 08, 2006 • 12:02 PM

Yesterday my purse disappeared at the grocery store. Ironically, I was trying to turn an insurance card to the service desk, that someone else had dropped, when it disappeared. Only $4 was inside. But, my driver's license was in there, all of my credit cards, and my cell phone. My new cell phone. So, it looks like I'll be getting an even newer one -- also, don't try to call me cell phone, haha. Though if you do and some guy answers, tell him to give me my stuff back! I cancelled all of my cards, etc. so if someone has it, they will be pretty disappointed. Of all the things I lost, the fact that they got away with my Azumanga Daioh cloisonné pin bothers me the most. It was in the shape of a tiny cute anime style wildcat. I'm trying to see if it is replaceable. Not much chance of that so far without buying DVD #6 in that series as well (it comes with the DVD). I also miss my orange wallet itself more than the things that were actually inside of it. I looked in the trash-cans, hoping to find it, but no luck. They still had a few of them at Target (thank goodness I had a Target gift card at home, or I wouldn't have had any money). They didn't have orange though. Now I have a purple wallet with nothing inside.

But, on the happier side of things, the grocery shopping itself went very well. I got the vegetables I need to make curry. Yum! I also got things to put in this pancake-type mix that the guy manning the register at the Korean market suggested. You put veggies in it and cook it into veggie pancake thingies. It looks really delicious. I also got some dried cranberries and yogurt pretzels in the bulk foods section. I think I'll take some of them on my road trip tomorrow! I get to go visit two of the site campuses affiliated with the college I work for. I will be out of the office all day. Plus, one of my buddies from work is going along, too! So it is going to be fun.

My pin looked like this guy.

As promised, and more! • Wednesday, February 01, 2006 • 10:13 PM

I started a flickr account! You can see my Chinese New Year photos there. There are lots of pictures of the decorations and a few shots of the food. I made a ton of food, but between cooking and eating, not too many food pictures got taken! I made stir fry, fried rice, sesame balls, tempura, orange sorbet with lychee fruit, and Chinese custard cups from scratch. I bought some frozen rice buns, filled with red bean paste and sesame paste, as well some dumplings. Those I steamed. My friend Jessica made and brought some fantastic sushi (she's really talented!). There were also contributions of corn casserole, some nice beers, champagne, ginger beer, China Cola, oranges, and clementines. I had all of the stuff to make bubble tea, but we were already stuffed... so if you want some free bubble tea, come on over!

Happy Year of the Dog!
