I was feeling pretty sleepy today. Which means I didn't get much done. I did help a friend, Lissha, move into her new apartment tonight though. That was fun. Last night was a lot of fun, too. We met Lissha at Alex's house and all made dinner together. Dinner was delicious and of course the company made it even better. Afterwards, Alex treated us to gelato. I hadn't ever had gelato before, but it was really yummy! Lissha and I were standing by the gelato counter, oooing over our gelato cups; we made the guy who dished up our gelato smile. I had half mango and half vanilla gelato. I think I'm going to be visiting the gelato place a lot now...

Mao turned up! At last! We were so glad to see her that we both hugged her for, like, 20 minutes. I was sitting in the living room trying not to think about how much I missed her when I heard some desperate meowing. I rushed to the door, and Mao was there, wanting to come inside. She ran in and seemed very glad to be back at home. So far, she has spent most of her time rolling around on the rug and purring. She was really hungry and thirsty. I have the feeling that she accidentally got shut in someone's garage or was caught in some similar predicament. If that was indeed the case, I'm especially glad that she was able to get home tonight, because it is supposed to be over 100 degrees tomorrow.
I suppose I'll never know what really happened, but I'm just so happy that she is home and safe. I will be thankful to be able to take down all of the missing cat fliers tomorrow.

Our cat Mao disappeared last night, so I spent most of the day looking for her and putting up fliers. I miss her so much. I really, really hope that we find her. I'm so worried. I talked to all of the adjoining neighbors, but none of them had seen her. Mao doesn't even usually want to go outside, this is not like her at all. Oh, I'm really worried.

The Brown-Eyed Suzan that I planted last year is out of control! It's loaded with flowers; it's really pretty. It's at least 5 times larger than it was last year. I wonder, will it be even bigger next year?

I got the new White Stripes album today. Or rather, the bf got it for me. He surprised me with it when he picked me up from work (very sweet). Of course, I immediately copied it to my iPod. Then later this evening I decided to go rollerblading. I thought I would just skate for a little while, but I totally lost track of time and ended up skating for 2 hours! It was awesome. I think I made some people laugh tonight; if I take my iPod along, I end up dancing on my skates. Two people on bikes came around the corner and caught me rockin' out. I looked at them, smiled bashfully... and kept dancing. Hahahah, I may be a fool, but I'm a dancin' fool (Is that really better?).

Shakespeare, etc.

Tomorrow I am trekking to Kansas City to go to the Shakespeare in the Park Festival. This year, they are performing Much Ado About Nothing, which is my favorite Shakespeare play (Thank you, Kenneth Branagh. Owww, in 1993 he was hot hot hot. Also: Keanu Reeves... not so hot). As an added bonus, being in the park, it means I get to have a picnic. And I'm a sucker for a picnic. And lemonade, I'm going to make sure we have lots and lots of lemonade!

These sweet potato fries are super addictive. Man, are they good. And the weird part is that they are actually not bad for you. They don't even have cholesterol.

I saw these in a grocery store while I was in Milwaukee and desperately wanted to try them. I didn't think we would be able to find them here, though. But, the bf found them here, at the local Hy-Vee. I can't believe it. Plus, they are on sale right now! I'm totally buying these in bulk...

Is he your dad?

The neighborhood kids have adopted me for some reason. Since they found out I have rollerblades, they are always ringing my doorbell and asking me if they can race me on their bikes. They always beat me, of course. ;) They are also fascinated with the chickens. This evening, they came over and wanted to see the chickens. They were very excited about feeding the chicks grass and green apples from the apple tree. The chicks like them, too, haha.
When I first moved here about a year ago, I think that the kids thought that I was a kid, too. They kept asking me how old I am, even after I had told them, as if they totally didn't believe me. I'm kinda small I guess, perhaps shrimpier than I ever imagined. One of the little girls of the group was really surprised one day when she saw me drive into the driveway. She ran up and said "You have your license?!" They also like to ask me where my mom lives. Today, she asked me if my mom lives with me again, saying that she thought my mom lived here, too. Then, she asked me if my boyfriend (who does live here) is my dad! Hahahahaha. I mean, this is particularly funny because we are a "biracial" (I don't believe in the concept of race, but you get the idea) couple. We really don't look anything alike AT ALL. We are also not that far apart age wise, there is only about 4 years between us in age. I guess my perceived age shouldn't be too much of a surprise to me. There is one buffet restaurant that always charges me the kid price. I have had stewardesses on airplanes question my age when seated in the emergency exit isle. I also have trouble buying spray paint at Wal-Mart.
------------------
Relating to the "Is he your dad?" post, my boyfriend just told me that he thinks that some people see us walking down the street together and give him funny looks, as if they think he is some sort of pervert for dating someone who looks so young. I still am not sure what makes me look so young. I'm small, but there are tiny old people, too!

Infested!

I've been trying to get a picture of this woodpecker that keeps drilling into our front porch. He's destructive, yet so cute. He's tiny with mottled black and white feathers. I think that he is after the carpenter bee larvae. Carpenter bees congregated around our front porch earlier this summer, busily drilling perfectly round bee-butt-sized holes (you could see their little bumbly rear ends sticking out of the holes) into the porch beams. They were fascinating to watch. Though maybe I should do something about all of these creatures, for the sake of the front porch. But they are so interesting. Plus, I am worried about using chemicals on them, it seems kind of harsh. But, the woodpecker is sort of like natural pest control for the bees, right?

YAY for Sales

Urbanoutfitters.com had a great sale going on last week. I got a really cute bed in a bag set for $11, well, plus the shipping fee of $15. But, still, it had been about $80 originally. It looks great on our office futon which doubles as a guest bed. Of course, we had to sleep in the office one night just to try out the new sheets. Mr.Mister immediately claimed the new comforter. He was sacked out on the futon all day yesterday. I think he approves.

Mr. Mister is quite satisfied.

Here's what the new set looks like.

Best Man I Am

I'm going to be the best man at my best friend Spencer's wedding. I'm so excited! YAY! I never thought I would be a best MAN. Back in high school Spencer made me sign a contract (!) promising that I would be his best man. And now I actually am going to be his best man.
The contract:

Their wedding isn't until August, but I bought their wedding gift today. I can hardly wait to give it to them, let alone wrap it up. I really like the present! It is from the registry and I think that Spencer's fiance, Megan, picked it out. I have always liked her a lot, but she has always lived fairly far away from me so I haven't gotten to know her all that well. But so far I'm finding that we seem to have eerily similar tastes.
