Infested!

I've been trying to get a picture of this woodpecker that keeps drilling into our front porch. He's destructive, yet so cute. He's tiny with mottled black and white feathers. I think that he is after the carpenter bee larvae. Carpenter bees congregated around our front porch earlier this summer, busily drilling perfectly round bee-butt-sized holes (you could see their little bumbly rear ends sticking out of the holes) into the porch beams. They were fascinating to watch. Though maybe I should do something about all of these creatures, for the sake of the front porch. But they are so interesting. Plus, I am worried about using chemicals on them, it seems kind of harsh. But, the woodpecker is sort of like natural pest control for the bees, right?
